Fletch was engaged by Brisbane Airport Corporation to deliver the redevelopment of the southern retail precinct within the Brisbane Airport Domestic Terminal Building. Delivered under a Design and Construct contract, the project involved managing the design process, project consultants and tenancy coordination while transforming multiple retail spaces within one of Australia's busiest transport hubs.
The works included demolition and refurbishment of existing tenancies, construction of new tenancy shells, upgrades to building services infrastructure, and the installation of new joinery, stone finishes, glazing, floor coverings and ceiling treatments. Undertaken across landside, sterile and airside environments, the project required meticulous planning and coordination to ensure airport operations continued uninterrupted throughout construction.
Key challenges
Working within live airport environments across landside, sterile and airside zones
Maintaining uninterrupted terminal operations throughout construction
Coordinating multiple retail tenancy redevelopments simultaneously
Managing complex stakeholder requirements within a highly regulated environment
Delivering day and night shift works to minimise disruption to passengers and retailers
Upgrading existing services infrastructure while maintaining operational continuity
Outcome
A modernised retail precinct delivered within Brisbane Airport's Domestic Terminal, enhancing the passenger experience through upgraded retail environments and improved infrastructure. Through detailed planning, stakeholder engagement and flexible delivery methodologies, the project was completed safely with no lost time injuries while maintaining full airport operations throughout the construction period.
