Fletch was engaged to deliver the fitout of Penny Blue Restaurant and Exchange Lane Bar within the Adelaide Marriott Hotel, located in the iconic heritage-listed General Post Office (GPO) building. Drawing inspiration from the site's rich history of communication and connection, the venues blend contemporary hospitality design with carefully restored heritage features to create distinctive dining and social experiences in the heart of Adelaide. Working within a landmark building formed part of the project's complexity, requiring close coordination between modern hospitality requirements and the preservation of historic architectural elements. High-end finishes, bespoke joinery, feature lighting and integrated services were delivered to create premium hospitality environments aligned with the Marriott brand while respecting the character of the original GPO building.
Key Challenges
Fitout within a heritage-listed and operationally complex building environment
Balancing contemporary hospitality requirements with heritage preservation
Delivering premium finishes, bespoke joinery and feature lighting throughout
Coordinating multiple trades within a staged hotel development programme
Integrating modern building services within existing heritage structures
Meeting Marriott brand standards while celebrating the building's historic character
Outcome
Two refined hospitality destinations that celebrate the heritage of Adelaide's historic GPO while delivering a contemporary guest experience. Through careful planning, quality craftsmanship and strong collaboration, the project successfully brought Penny Blue Restaurant and Exchange Lane Bar to life as key dining and social destinations within South Australia's first Marriott hotel.
